Why a lightweight children’s bike?
A normal steel Dutch bicycle is about 2/3 of the child’s body weight. An aluminum bicycle is 1/3 of the child’s body weight. Dutch bicycles of 16 inches weigh 12-15 kg for a child of 3 – 5 years. For an adult of 75 kg that is proportionally 50 kg. That does not weigh your bike during a camping holiday!
Such a steel bicycle has a bad grip on your child and makes it easier for your child to fall into the trap. They are unsafe.
A lightweight bicycle is nicer. Children and especially small children do not yet have such a good balance and they do not have such strong muscles compared to an adult.
With a lightweight bicycle, your child can drive longer distances, get on easier, start faster, cycle faster and up a hill more easily. You fall less quickly.
The Woom children’s bike 16 inches weighs 5.7 kg. A Frog bike weighs 6.75 kg.
In the case of lightweight bicycles, the proportions are generally also good. Such as small handles and small brake levers, so that the small fingers can reach the brakes. Short cranks, small saddles and a handlebar that is not too wide.
