NIJMEGEN – The Dutch Bicycle Center, a collection of bicycle-related companies in the former Honig complex in Nijmegen, will soon be moving. At the end of this year a larger location will be involved, which offers room for even more new partners.
The relocation is more or less forced, because the Honig complex will largely go down in the foreseeable future because it has to make way for housing. But in the context of the renewal and further development of the Dutch Bicycle Center, it is ultimately not so bad. The new location was found in a former car showroom on the Nieuwe Dukenburgseweg in Nijmegen, near the De Goffert city park. “A variety of bicycle companies come together in the Dutch Bicycle Center, who together want to develop the Netherlands as a cycling country,” says founder Joppe van Stiphout. “With a more spacious and contemporary look, the new location offers more opportunities for cooperation between the business community, educational institutions, municipality and province.”
IN OPERATION According to Van Stiphout, the first companies are already switching in the autumn of 2019 and from spring 2020 the new location will be fully operational. “Obviously, leading bicycle stores such as Stipbike and Elan are moving to the new location, but the Dutch Bicycle Center also offers so many more companies a home,” says Van Stiphout. “Bicycles and parts are designed, tested (new Gazelle test center) and produced in the Dutch Bicycle Center. Sustainable mobility is also being developed in cooperation with the municipality of Nijmegen, the province of Gelderland, the Radboud University, the HAN and the ROC, with the integration of design and traffic engineering.
VELOMOTIVE CAMPUS | New is that the Dutch Bicycle Center becomes part of the Gelderse Velomotive Campus, a new partnership in which consultancy, government and the business community in the region work together. “A focal point within a region that also presents itself internationally as a knowledge center for (bicycle) mobility,” says Van Stiphout. “As one of the most active pillars of the Dutch Cycling Embassy, we regularly receive policymakers from all over the world.”
The Dutch Bicycle Center will move into a former car showroom.
VIEWING The new location is centrally located near Nijmegen-Goffert station, close to the Nijmegen-Wijchen and Nijmegen-Cuijk motorways and with good connections to the A73 motorway. The building offers a large surface area for showrooms and exhibitions. In addition, there are meeting rooms, presentation and workshop rooms.
The building also offers modern, customized office spaces for every company. “That is why we invite potential partners and other interested parties to visit the building on August 29, at 3 p.m.,” concludes Van Stiphout.
